Crane Rental in Grand Prairie, TX

Crane rental in Grand Prairie turns on three local questions before anyone opens a load chart, the maker's table of capacity by radius and boom length: which county the site is in, whether the crane must take a lane of a major roadway, and how close the boom will stand to Grand Prairie Municipal Airport or DFW International. The City of Grand Prairie says parts of the city lie in Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis Counties, and describes a community 26 miles long and about eight miles across at its widest. Two jobs in the same city can fall under different county lines, TxDOT district offices and ground. We sort those out first, then size the crane or machine to the load.

Grand Prairie shares a border and an industrial district with Arlington. The Handbook of Texas entry for Grand Prairie names Arlington among the four cities that enclose it, the Handbook's Arlington entry places the 5,000-acre Great Southwest Industrial District between the two, and the City of Grand Prairie's own table puts the University of Texas at Arlington about 7 miles from central Grand Prairie. You can book a crane operated, with the operator supplied and the hours billed against a minimum, or bare, renting the machine alone for an operator of your own who meets OSHA's rules. Each written quote is free, and published price ranges by class are listed on the crane and equipment cost page.

Missile Lines, Rotor Blades and Tilt-Wall Warehouses in Grand Prairie

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control HQ heads the City of Grand Prairie's 2023 list of top employers, at 5,000 jobs, and the company's Grand Prairie plant is growing. In a report dated October 16, 2026, Defense News said the expansion adds 100,000 square feet of new space, converts 85,000 square feet of office space into factory floor and takes the plant's manufacturing footprint past 735,000 square feet. Work of that kind happens outside and inside. New space needs steel, roof framing and rooftop equipment set by a mobile or all-terrain crane; turning offices into factory floor means equipment brought through doors and set on existing floors, work for rigging, a mini crane, forklifts and scissor lifts.

Helicopters are the second industry a Grand Prairie lift plan meets. Airbus Helicopters says its U.S. headquarters is in Grand Prairie, and in September 2026 it said an investment had expanded the site's blade repair footprint by 50%, for a shop servicing over 1,000 rotor blades a year; the City's 2023 table also lists Bell Textron and Safran Helicopters among its top employers. Grand Prairie Municipal Airport, a designated reliever airport in the FAA's national plan, lies three miles southwest of downtown, and the FAA's remarks for the field note extensive helicopter traffic on its west side. A crane boom or tall man lift near that traffic is checked against the FAA's notice rules before it goes up.

Warehouses and plant buildings make up the other large category of work. The City says much of the Great Southwest Industrial District's approximately 80 million square feet lies in Grand Prairie, and that recent industrial, hotel and multifamily development has taken up large tracts in the north Great Southwest. Registrations with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) include a new Poly-America manufacturing building, listed to start April 1, 2026 and finish June 30, 2027, and two concrete tilt-wall warehouses at Bear Creek Logistics Park. Grand Prairie's economic development office announced in October 2025 that Modine's new plant would build data center cooling equipment and bring more than 1,000 new jobs.

Ground and water change across the city. The Handbook of Texas describes Dallas County as primarily flat, heavy Blackland Prairie with undulating terrain over Austin chalk, which it says made a firm foundation for roadways; the USDA describes Houston Black, a Blackland Prairie clay, as very slowly permeable with high shrink-swell potential. Kirby, Cottonwood and Fish creeks and the West Fork of the Trinity River flow through Grand Prairie, and part of Joe Pool Lake lies in south Grand Prairie. The Corps of Engineers lists Cedar Hill State Park among the lake's four developed parks; the neighboring city has its own Cedar Hill crane rental page. On wet clay, creek banks and lakeside slopes, a crane's outriggers, the steel legs it extends to stand on, need mats or cribbing, pads that spread the load.

Crane Services for Grand Prairie Plants, Hangars and Warehouses

Nine crane services cover Grand Prairie work, from a boom truck at a hangar to a crawler on a months-long industrial job. Each begins with what the load weighs and its radius, meaning how far out the load hangs from the point the crane turns on, read against the maker's load chart. Grand Prairie adds two early inputs: the time window when the crane must use a lane of a major roadway, and the height when the boom rises near an airport.

Mobile Truck Cranes on Grand Prairie's Interstates and Tollway

A mobile truck crane, a hydraulic crane built on a road chassis, handles single picks, meaning one-off lifts, at Grand Prairie plants, warehouses and shops that it can reach from a paved lot or street. It drives in on its own wheels: the Handbook of Texas lists Interstates 20 and 30 and State Highways 161, 180 and 303 across the city, and the City names the George W. Bush Tollway (SH 161) and SH 360 as its north-south arterials. TxDMV's rush-hour curfew list exempts mobile cranes in Tarrant County and has no entry at all for Dallas County or Grand Prairie. When outriggers must sit in a lane of a major roadway, the City's 9:00 am to 3:00 pm closure window sets the lift time. For load charts and operated or bare terms, see our mobile crane rental page.

All-Terrain Cranes for Large Grand Prairie Picks Near DFW

An all-terrain crane, a multi-axle crane that drives at highway speed and still copes with an unpaved site, takes the Grand Prairie picks that outgrow a truck crane's chart: long steel on a plant addition, or a heavy load set far from where a crane can park. Its size brings two local checks. A crane or counterweight truck moving under a TxDMV permit may not use the tolled main lanes of SH 161 between I-20 and I-35E (TxDMV Dallas District restriction 20622). Near the city's northern border, which the City places 5 to 10 minutes south of DFW International, we test the boom height against the FAA's notice rules for DFW's runways as well as Grand Prairie Municipal's. SH 161 also passes through Irving, covered on our Irving crane rental page. Our all-terrain crane rental page lists axle counts and road speeds.

Rough-Terrain Cranes on Grand Prairie Pads and Creek Lots

A rough-terrain crane, a four-wheel-drive crane on large tires that is trucked to the site and then driven around it, works the Grand Prairie jobs that start on dirt: an industrial pad in the north Great Southwest before paving, or a lot along Kirby, Cottonwood or Fish Creek. There the ground often sets the setup. OSHA section 1926.1402 requires ground that is "firm, drained, and graded" well enough, with mats or blocking where needed, that the crane sits as level and supported as its maker specifies, and it assigns that preparation to the controlling entity, the contractor with overall responsibility for the project. We ask for the site plan, any soil report and known buried tanks or utilities before choosing the crane and its mats. Steering modes are compared on our rough-terrain crane rental page.

Crawler Cranes for Long Grand Prairie-Area Industrial Jobs

A crawler crane, a crane on steel tracks that arrives in pieces and is assembled on site, pays back its assembly time on long programs of heavy, repeated picks. One such program sits at the city's edge: Dallas Innovates reported in February 2025 that a hyperscale data center campus just outside Grand Prairie in Ellis County is planned as 24 buildings across three phases, and the State's registration for its first data hall, a two-story core and shell, lists Midlothian. A crawler's assembly is governed by OSHA sections 1926.1403 and 1926.1404, with an A/D director, the person who runs assembly and disassembly, in charge; after that it travels on its tracks between picks over mats. Our crawler crane rental page covers transport loads and how mats spread the crane's weight.

Boom Trucks for Grand Prairie Hotels, Hangars and Shops

A boom truck, a flatbed truck with its own telescoping crane, covers the lighter Grand Prairie picks: a rooftop unit, a roof truss package, a sign face or a storefront glass panel. The City describes EpicCentral as a 172-acre park site off the George W. Bush Tollway and lists a Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites there as open, and the City has announced a Topgolf opening nearby. At Grand Prairie Municipal Airport the City counts 227 individual T-hangars, and hangar work sits close to a runway, so even a boom truck's height gets the FAA notice check. Truck ratings and the CDL question are explained on the boom truck rental page.

Spider and Mini Cranes Inside Grand Prairie Plants

A spider crane, a compact tracked crane with fold-out legs narrow enough to pass through a doorway, handles Grand Prairie lifts inside finished buildings. The office-to-factory conversion at Lockheed Martin's plant, as Defense News described it, is the kind of job where equipment can come in through doors rather than over a roof, with the existing floor carrying both crane and load. REBusiness Online reported in November 2019 that an 18,000-square-foot facility for Airbus Helicopters and Helisim in Grand Prairie, housing two helicopter flight simulators, was due for completion in March 2020, another interior of that type. Makers describe these small cranes for indoor and atrium lifts, glazing and narrow access, and a carry deck crane, a small wheeled crane that can drive with a load, is the other indoor option. For floor loading and machine widths, see the spider and mini crane rental page.

HVAC Crane Service on Grand Prairie Warehouse and Plant Roofs

HVAC crane service in Grand Prairie is the lift that places a packaged rooftop unit (RTU) or a condenser on a commercial roof, or removes the old one. The HVAC contractor handles the unit and its hookups; we handle the lifting, from crane and operator to rigging and plan. Heat shapes the day: in August 2026, 27 days reached 100 degrees F or higher at DFW, according to the NWS Fort Worth/Dallas monthly summary, and our construction and weather data page tracks that summer. An early start near houses must stay within the City's noise limits at homes, 65 db from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 58 db overnight; its noise page lists no separate construction-hours rule. Roof curb checks (the curb is the raised frame a unit sits on) are on our HVAC crane service page.

Rigging and Lift Plans for Grand Prairie Wind, Lines and Airspace

A lift plan for a Grand Prairie pick starts with three local entries: wind, power lines and airspace. NWS Fort Worth/Dallas logged a measured 66 mph gust at Lockheed Martin in Grand Prairie during the May 2, 2007 derecho, and OSHA section 1926.1417 has the competent person, the worker with the knowledge to see hazards and the authority to fix them promptly, adjust operations for wind. Oncor's Division 138 kV project page describes a new double-circuit line within Arlington and Grand Prairie on steel monopoles, approved January 26, 2026; OSHA's Table A sets a 15-foot minimum clearance for that voltage band. Near Grand Prairie Municipal, the FAA's remarks give an 812 ft AGL traffic pattern for airplanes and 612 ft AGL for helicopters. ASME P30.1's standard and critical plans are explained on our rigging and lift planning page.

Heavy Hauls and Plant Machinery Moves in Grand Prairie

Heavy haul into Grand Prairie means trucking a machine that exceeds Texas legal limits under a TxDMV permit; machinery moving means rigging it off the trailer and into place inside a building, at plants like those on the City's 2023 employer table, among them Poly-America, Flex-N-Gate, Siemens Energy & Automation and Lear Seating. The county sets the clock. For all oversize vehicles in Tarrant County, TxDMV's curfew list gives "7 a.m. - 9 a.m. & 4 p.m. - 6 p.m." on weekdays, mobile cranes excepted, so a trailer load leaving Arlington plans around those hours; the list has no Dallas County entry. TxDMV's Fort Worth District also limits certain ramp moves at the I-30/SH 360 interchange in Arlington to a 14-foot 6-inch height (restriction 63376). For escorts and permit fees, see the heavy haul and machinery moving page.

Equipment Rental for Grand Prairie Sites, Streets and Warehouses

Eight equipment classes handle the ground work and the work at height around a Grand Prairie crane job, rented by the day, week or month. Each subsection ties the machine to a Grand Prairie rule or site. Every rental arrives with the maker's operating information, and before delivery we ask which person on your crew will drive any forklift, telehandler or man lift, since OSHA and the ANSI/SAIA standards expect that operator to be trained.

Excavators for Grand Prairie Utility Trenches and Street Cuts

An excavator in Grand Prairie digs the trenches, footings and street cuts behind utility and paving work, and the City sets the timing. Public works construction for utilities and paving needs an approved permit and an inspection from the Engineering Division, processed in about 3 to 5 business days after the online application. On franchise utility work the City asks for 48-hour email notice before work begins and 24-hour notice before open cutting or boring a street, and a street cut may not stay open overnight without the Transportation Department's approval. A Texas 811 request needs two business days; the City's own water, sewer, signal and fiber locates ask for 72 hours. Mini to full-size classes are compared on our excavator rental page.

Skid Steers and Track Loaders Near Grand Prairie's Creeks

Skid steers and compact track loaders do the small grading, backfill and cleanup on Grand Prairie sites, riding on tracks where the clay is wet and on wheels where the ground is paved. Near the city's creeks, the permit comes before the bucket. The City requires a Floodplain Development Permit for all proposed development within 200 feet of a Special Flood Hazard Area, under Article 15 of its Unified Development Code, and calls floodplain development without a permit illegal. Small fill jobs along Kirby, Cottonwood or Fish Creek can fall inside that band, so we ask whether the site has the permit before the loader arrives. Rated capacities are compared on our skid steer and track loader rental page.

Telehandlers for Grand Prairie's New Spec Warehouses

A telehandler, a telescoping-boom forklift made for rough ground, sets pallets and bundles up and out across an unfinished Grand Prairie warehouse site. The spec buildings set the reach. REBusiness Online reported on June 10, 2025 that a 286,700-square-foot speculative industrial project in Grand Prairie, on a 16.8-acre site, would have 36-foot clear heights, and TDLR lists Remington 30's Building 2, a spec warehouse in Dallas County, for completion at the end of November 2026. A telehandler handles roofing and deck bundles on buildings like these until the weight or the reach goes past its chart, and then the job needs a crane. Capacity at full height and reach is listed on our telehandler rental page.

Boom Lifts Near Grand Prairie Municipal Airport and Power Lines

A boom lift, a man lift on an articulating or telescopic arm, puts a crew at height on Grand Prairie facades, signs, hangar doors and canopies. Near Grand Prairie Municipal Airport the FAA's notice surface rises from the runway, and the FAA's remarks already list a 165-foot water tower a quarter mile west of it, so a tall boom near the field gets the same 14 CFR 77.9 notice test we apply to a crane. Near overhead lines, OSHA's aerial lift fact sheet says to "Treat all overhead power lines and communication cables as energized, and stay at least 10 feet (3 meters) away." Texas law adds its own six-foot limit in Health and Safety Code chapter 752, which holds until the line's operator agrees to guard, move or de-energize the line. The boom lift rental page compares platform heights by model.

Scissor Lifts for Grand Prairie Fulfillment Centers and Plants

A scissor lift, a platform raised on crisscrossed steel arms, handles ceilings, lighting, sprinklers and racking inside Grand Prairie's warehouses and plants. The City said on April 13, 2026 that Cutter & Buck's new apparel fulfillment center, with capacity for up to 10 million units, was scheduled to open in October 2026, and in October 2025 Grand Prairie's economic development office expected Modine's data center cooling plant to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026. Fit-out and upkeep in buildings like these is slab work for electric scissor lifts. OSHA's August 2000 letter puts scissor lifts under its scaffold rules as mobile scaffolds, with guardrails as the fall protection, and its eTool says "Scissor lifts rated for outdoor use are generally limited to wind speeds below 28 miles per hour." The scissor lift rental page gives deck ratings and widths.

Forklifts for Grand Prairie Docks, Plant Floors and Yards

A forklift moves pallets and parts across Grand Prairie docks, plant floors and yards, on cushion tires indoors or pneumatic tires outside. The City's 2023 employer table lists a General Motors LOC Center with a workforce of 500 next to plants such as Poly-America and Lear Seating, and TDLR's registry lists a new loading dock for Airbus's blade shop, due at the end of 2025. Docks, staging lanes and racks like these are forklift ground. On a construction site, 29 CFR 1926.602(d) adopts the training rule in 29 CFR 1910.178(l): each operator is trained, evaluated in the workplace and re-evaluated at least once every three years. Tire types and rated capacities are compared on our forklift rental page.

Backhoes and Loaders for Grand Prairie's 2026 Bond Streets

A backhoe loader trenches and backfills without a second machine, while a wheel loader keeps trucks full and stockpiles in order; both suit the street rebuilds Grand Prairie voters approved on May 2, 2026, when all three propositions of the City's bond election passed. The street proposition lists a Lake Ridge Parkway bridge and pedestrian crossing, with an estimated three-year timeline, along with Jefferson Street, Shady Grove Road, Carrier Parkway between SH 161 and SH 360, Roy Orr Boulevard and Marshall Drive. Street rebuilds cut across driveways, and the City's construction notes require at least 24-hour written notice to residents and businesses before a driveway or alley closes. Dig depths and bucket sizes are compared on our backhoe and loader rental page.

Dozers for Grand Prairie Building Pads Above the Flood Line

A dozer cuts and fills ground to build a level building pad, and near Grand Prairie's creeks the City decides how high that pad must finish. The City requires all new structures to be built at least 2.0 feet above the 1% annual chance flood elevation, or higher where its second flood test sets a higher mark, so the grading plan fixes the fill before the blade moves. Grading where buried lines may cross the site also needs a Texas 811 request two business days ahead. Blade capacities, rollover protection and the dozer range with its single-source caveat are on our dozer rental page.

Lane Closures, Airspace and County Lines for Grand Prairie Lifts

Grand Prairie's traffic control notes set the lift window on its main streets: "No lane closures on major roadways permitted before 9:00 am or after 3:00 pm." The rule is in the City's public works construction document package, whose pages are dated January 2021. The same notes ask the contractor to notify the Transportation Services Department two weeks before any requested roadway closure, to give residents and businesses at least 24-hour written notice before a driveway or alley closes, and to report a changed start date within 48 hours or resubmit the traffic control plan (TCP). A crane that must stand in a major road gets a midday window, and we set the lift time with you before booking.

Grand Prairie Municipal Airport has a 4,000-foot runway, as the City of Grand Prairie's airport page describes it, longer than the 3,200 feet above which the FAA's 100-to-1 notice surface extends 20,000 feet from the runway under 14 CFR 77.9. Height by itself also triggers a filing once a crane tops 200 feet above the ground beneath it, and the FAA's Part 77 page gives "Cranes, Boom Trucks" as examples of temporary construction. The City's Joint Airport Zoning Board oversees the airport's Height Hazard Zoning Ordinance; its page gives no height figures, so we ask the City for the limit at your address. Where notice applies, FAA Form 7460-1 must be filed no later than 45 days before work starts; the crane permit guide walks through the filing.

Grand Prairie spans three counties, and the county shapes how a permit or a move is handled. Inside the city, TxDOT permits are issued to the City of Grand Prairie, not the private developer, and must be in hand before construction; the City says a complete submittal can be processed within 24 to 48 hours. In the Dallas County part, work in TxDOT right-of-way needs a driveway or utility permit approved by TxDOT's Dallas District office. On the Tarrant County side, TxDMV's weekday curfew governs oversize trailer loads, and in the Ellis County part of the extraterritorial jurisdiction the City uses separate Ellis County floodplain forms. We check the address against each of these before a date is set.

  • Overhead lines: OSHA section 1926.1408 has the crane employer check whether any part of the crane could get "closer than 20 feet to a power line" at its maximum working radius.
  • New commercial buildings need a permit from the City's Building Inspections Division, with an engineer's seal above 5,000 sq. ft., processed in about 5 to 10 business days.
  • Projects with public improvements need a pre-construction meeting with Engineering staff, held virtually on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.
Questions

Grand Prairie FAQs

Can a crane close a lane on a Grand Prairie street?

Yes, within the City's window. Grand Prairie's traffic control notes allow no lane closures on major roadways before 9:00 am or after 3:00 pm, so a crane in a lane of a major road works the middle of the day. A full road closure needs notice to the Transportation Services Department two weeks ahead, and closing a driveway or alley needs at least 24-hour written notice to the residents and businesses it serves. Utility work that closes a lane needs a City-released traffic control plan. The written quote lists the closures and notices your lift needs, before any date is fixed.

Does a crane near Grand Prairie Municipal Airport need an FAA filing?

It does if the crane will break the FAA's notice surface. Under 14 CFR 77.9 that surface climbs 100 to 1 for 20,000 feet from the nearest runway at airports whose longest runway exceeds 3,200 feet, and the City lists Grand Prairie Municipal's runway at 4,000 feet. Height alone also triggers notice above 200 feet, wherever the crane stands. The filing is FAA Form 7460-1, made 45 days or more before the work. We check your crane's position and greatest height against the criteria and the City's airport zoning and tell you whether to file.

Does Grand Prairie limit the hours for crane work?

Not on the City's noise page, which sets limits at homes of 65 db from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 58 db from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., averaged over 15 minutes, with no reading more than 20 db above those limits, and lists no separate construction-hours rule. The limits that do bind a crane day are the lane-closure window on major roadways and, for trailer loads, TxDMV's weekday curfew on oversize loads in Tarrant County, which exempts mobile cranes. If a lift near houses must start early, tell us when you ask for the quote.

Can you bring a crane to Grand Prairie from Arlington?

Yes. Truck and all-terrain cranes make the trip on their own tires, and the Tarrant County entry on TxDMV's curfew list says mobile cranes are not affected. The Handbook of Texas lists Interstates 20 and 30 across Grand Prairie, and TxDOT's I-30 reevaluation covers the interstate from Cooper Street in Arlington to SH 161 in Grand Prairie. A crane moving under a TxDMV permit stays off the tolled main lanes of SH 161 between I-20 and I-35E. Crawler parts come by trailer, which the curfew covers when the load is oversize. Travel is its own line in the written quote.
