Dozer Rental in Arlington, TX

A dozer, in plain terms, is a tracked tractor with a blade on its front end, rented to clear land, cut and fill building pads and spread material, and around Arlington the job turns on blade size, ground pressure on wet clay, and the permits grading can trigger. CASE lists its small 750M at 20,168 lb with a 96 in blade that holds 1.69 yd3, and DEVELON its mid-size DD130 XL at 31074 lb. with a 4.6 yd3 blade. Grading at this scale brings rules of its own: the City of Arlington requires a Floodplain Development Permit for grading or filling in a regulated flood zone, and its stormwater program points sites of at least 1 acre and under 5 acres to the state's TPDES construction permit. This page sets out blade and weight figures from CASE and DEVELON, the single-source national rates, those rules, the Texas 811 call and what hauling a wide blade on Tarrant County roads involves.

$500-$800 a day for a small 80-130 HP crawler, single national rental marketplace guide, March 2026 · full pricing guide

Crawler blade machines come in classes by weight, power and blade. At the small end, CASE's 750M makes Net 92 hp and weighs 20,168 lb on long track with a 96 in blade carrying 1.69 yd3; its low-ground-pressure (LGP) version, built on wider tracks, carries a 124 in, 2.22 yd3 blade and presses the ground at 4.04 psi. DEVELON's DD100 XL (23287 lb.) pushes a 2.9 yd3 blade, and DEVELON rates the DD100 at 115.3 hp. In the mid-size class, DEVELON's DD130 XL moves a 4.6 yd3 blade (DEVELON rates the DD130 at 146.1 hp), and CASE's 1650M carries up to 5.28 yd3 on its 156 in wide-track and LGP blade, with a maximum drawbar pull, the force it can pull at the hitch, of 61,200 lb. Blade capacity is the volume of soil the blade carries in one pass.

Published rates for this class rest on a single source, a national equipment-rental marketplace's 2026 cost guide dated March 19, 2026, so treat them as a national yardstick, not an Arlington price. The guide averages "$1,011/day, $2,828/week, or $7,571/month". Its rows put a small 80-130 HP machine at daily "$500-$800", weekly "$1,400-$2,200" and monthly "$3,500-$6,000", and a medium 130-220 HP machine at "$800-$1,500" a day. Haul costs are separate: "$300-$600 roundtrip" on a standard trailer for a small machine and "$500-$1,200 roundtrip" on a lowboy for a medium one. "Fuel is not included in the rental rate," and a ripper adds "$100-$300/day". Texas taxes the bare rental, its damage waiver and the hauling charge under the Comptroller's Rule 3.294, and inside Arlington the total rate is 8.25 percent. See the cost page's published ranges for every class.

Texas law counts the use of mechanized equipment to remove or otherwise disturb soil 16 or more inches deep as excavating (Utilities Code section 251.002(5)), so a blade cutting a pad that deep needs a Texas 811 locate request first; Oncor puts it as "One simple call to 811 before digging 16 inches or deeper". OSHA's 29 CFR 1926.602 lists "bulldozers" among earthmoving equipment, which must carry seat belts; where the operator cannot see behind the machine, it may reverse only while its backup alarm sounds or a worker signals. Rollover protective structures come from 29 CFR 1926.1000, whose scope names "crawler tractors" used in construction. The City of Arlington adds its Floodplain Development Permit for grading or filling inside a regulated flood zone and applies the state's TPDES stormwater permit to sites of at least 1 acre and under 5 acres.

The large earthwork near Arlington is published by the agencies and cities behind it. TxDOT's $2.3 billion Southeast Connector will rebuild and widen I-20 and I-820 over about 16 miles, with completion estimated in 2028. In Cedar Hill, the city's economic development corporation said in September 2026 that Loop 9 Segment A is planned to run about 9.4 miles from US 67 to I-35E, and TxDOT's June 2026 list put the start of the US 67 interchange at Lake Ridge Parkway in summer 2026 (Cedar Hill's road and industrial work). Burleson's FY26 budget sets aside $5,000,000 for West Side Infrastructure, and its HighPoint Business Park, where Paris Baguette will build a $175 million plant, has created close to 2,000 jobs (Burleson's business parks). On clay the USDA calls "very slowly permeable", a graded pad dries slowly after rain, so plan grading days with room for weather.

To quote, we need the acreage or pad size, what is being cleared or moved, the depth of cut and fill, whether the site touches a creek, a flood zone or Lake Arlington, the ground, the access and your dates. The quote is in writing at no charge and lists the machine and blade, any ripper, bare or with an operator, the rental period, the trailer and any oversize permit, with each charge and any tax line shown. A cut of 16 inches or more waits on the Texas 811 ticket, which we or you request two business days before the blade starts, and the maker's operating information arrives with the machine.

Small and Mid-Size Crawler Blades on the Makers' Sheets

Four current models from two makers show how weight, blade and power climb from the small class to the mid-size. Blade figures are for the long-track or standard build unless a row names the low-ground-pressure (LGP) or extra-long-track (XLT) version.

Model and build Operating weight Blade width and capacity Net power Ground pressure
CASE 750M (small, long track) 20,168 lb 96 in, 1.69 yd3 92 hp 5.36 psi
DEVELON DD100 XL (small) 23,287 lb 9 ft 1.1 in, 2.9 yd3 115.3 hp (DD100) 5.7 psi
DEVELON DD130 XL (mid-size) 31,074 lb 10 ft 2.2 in, 4.6 yd3 146.1 hp (DD130) 6.0 psi
CASE 1650M (mid-size, XLT) 38,243 lb 130 in, 4.28 yd3 150 hp 6.59 psi
CASE 1650M (mid-size, LGP) 38,256 lb 156 in, 5.28 yd3 150 hp 4.83 psi

Every value is the maker's published figure for the build named. These five rows illustrate two classes; they do not describe machines we own. Blade, track and shoe width change capacity and ground pressure, so check the sheet for the exact machine on your quote.

Signs the Site Needs a Crawler Blade

A blade machine fits when soil has to move across a site rather than come up out of a hole. These conditions point to one, and most of them also start a permit, a stormwater plan or a locate request before the first pass.

  • A pad, lot or road bed has to be cut, filled and shaped to grade across an area too wide for a compact loader.
  • The disturbed area is at least 1 acre and under 5 acres, which Arlington's stormwater program ties to the state's TPDES permit and a SWPPP.
  • Grading or fill will happen inside a regulated flood zone, which needs a City of Arlington Floodplain Development Permit first.
  • Fill is planned in a regulatory floodway, where the City bars encroachments unless analysis shows no increase in flood levels.
  • The cut will reach 16 inches or more where lines may be buried, which makes it excavating under Texas law and calls for 811.
  • The ground is soft clay, where a low-ground-pressure build at 4.04 psi (CASE 750M LGP) spreads the weight more than a standard track.

Some jobs want a different tool. Trenching and loading out are work for an excavator matched to the cut, and final shaping beside buildings suits a compact track loader. We will tell you where the line falls for your site.

Grading Near Creeks and Lake Arlington: Floodplain and Stormwater Rules

Grading is where a crawler job meets the City of Arlington's water rules. The City's Floodplains and Construction page says "A Floodplain Development Permit (FDP) approved by the City is required for any development within a regulated flood zone", and it counts "paving, excavation, grading, filling, dredging, or drilling operations" as development, along with stored machinery. Special Flood Hazard Areas, in the City's words, are the land "subject to inundation by 1-percent-annual-chance flood." The Flood Damage Prevention chapter, amended by Ordinance No. 25-082 on October 14, 2025, makes the Director of Public Works and Transportation the Floodplain Administrator (section 4.01), and in the regulatory floodway it says "Encroachments are prohibited, including fill, new construction," unless analysis shows the work "would not result in any increase in flood levels within the community" (section 5.05(1)).

Stormwater is the second rule. The City's Construction Compliance Program says construction of at least 1 acre and under 5 acres "must comply with the Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) Permit rules" and the City's Stormwater Pollution Control Ordinance, and "The TXR150000 Construction General Permit (CGP) details the requirements that all construction sites must follow", including a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP). Lake Arlington has its own chapter: the City's flowage easement runs to the contour line of elevation five hundred sixty feet above mean sea level, and building on it needs a permit. Ask about all three before the first pass.

Pad and Road Work Around Arlington, in the Owners' Words

The biggest earthwork near Arlington is public road building and private industrial pads, each described by the agency or city behind it. TxDOT calls the Southeast Connector "The $2.3 billion project" that will "rebuild and widen approximately 16 miles of I-20 and I-820," taking I-20 to 10 main lanes between I-820 and US 287, and lists it as "estimated for completion in 2028." The Cedar Hill Economic Development Corporation's Loop 9 notice, posted in September 2026, describes Segment A as planned "to extend approximately 9.4 miles from US 67 to I 35E through Dallas and Ellis counties," and says the US 67 interchange at Lake Ridge Parkway "is expected to take approximately three years"; TxDOT's June 2026 Dallas County list shows that interchange starting in summer 2026, with completion estimated for spring 2029.

The same EDC counts "More than 4 million square feet of industrial space recently completed or in development." In Burleson, the city's FY26 budget sets aside $5,000,000 for West Side Infrastructure, expects a new master-planned community on the city's western side, reports that HighPoint Business Park "has created close to 2,000 jobs," notes Paris Baguette's new North American plant "investing $175 million in the development," and lists a trade school's 54-acre site at Hooper Business Park. Each figure is the owner's own statement as of its date; together they show the scale of site work in the area.

Hauling a Crawler on Tarrant County Roads: Width, Permits and Curfews

A crawler with its blade on is often wider than a Texas road allows without paperwork. TxDMV sets the no-permit width for vehicles other than passenger vehicles at 8 feet 6 inches, and TxDMV's size and weight limits page gives legal gross weight as "Gross - 80,000 pounds maximum"; anything over legal size or weight needs an oversize/overweight permit. DEVELON prints the DD130 XL blade at 10 ft 2.2 in and CASE the 1650M wide-track blade at 156 in, so either one, hauled with its blade, travels as an oversize load. Once permitted, the load runs on TxDMV's clock. In Tarrant County, Fort Worth District restriction 17801 bars oversize width, height or length on all highways from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.

and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays; its printed exemption covers mobile cranes only. Restriction 66950 caps width at 11 feet on the I-20 frontage roads from a street in Fort Worth to Green Oaks Boulevard in Arlington. Loads over 14 feet wide may not move on TxDMV's listed holidays, Thanksgiving Day 2026 among them, without an exception. On City of Arlington streets, section 5.05 of the Streets and Sidewalks chapter bars running "any traction engine, the surface of whose wheels have cogs on them or are otherwise rough or uneven," on paved streets unless the wheels are covered "to avoid actual contact with or injury" to the pavement; ask Public Works before a crawler crosses one under its own power.

Small or Mid-Size Crawler, and Which Track

The choice is blade size against weight, width and haul cost. A heavier machine moves more per pass but needs a lowboy, may need an oversize permit and presses harder on soft ground. The makers' figures and the single-source national rates for each option follow.

Small crawler, 80-130 HP

CASE's 750M (20,168 lb, 96 in blade) and DEVELON's DD100 XL (23287 lb., 2.9 yd3) handle lot clearing, driveways and house pads. The marketplace guide prints daily "$500-$800" and a "$300-$600 roundtrip" haul on a standard trailer. Suits builders, landscapers and owners clearing a few acres.

Mid-size crawler, 130-220 HP

DEVELON's DD130 XL (4.6 yd3; the DD130 is rated at 146.1 hp) and CASE's 1650M (150 hp, up to 5.28 yd3) cut road beds and commercial pads. The guide prints "$800-$1,500" a day for this band and "$500-$1,200 roundtrip" on a lowboy. Suits site and paving contractors on larger pads and road work.

Low-ground-pressure or wide track

Wider shoes lower the pressure on soft clay: CASE prints 4.04 psi for the 750M LGP against 5.36 psi on long track, and 4.83 psi for the 1650M LGP against 6.59 psi on extra-long track. The wider blade that comes with it (156 in on the 1650M) exceeds the 8 feet 6 inches Texas allows on the road without a permit. Suits wet sites, fill and pond work.

Every one of these machines reaches the site on a trailer. The small class can ride a standard equipment trailer by the marketplace guide's account, the medium class needs a lowboy, and a blade wider than the legal limit turns the trip into a permitted oversize move with its own routes and hours. Our guide to heavy haul and machinery moving explains how those loads travel.

Questions

Dozer Rental FAQs

What does a dozer rental cost?

One national rental marketplace publishes the figures used here: an average of $1,011/day, $2,828/week or $7,571/month in its March 2026 guide, with small 80-130 HP machines at $500-$800 a day and medium 130-220 HP machines at $800-$1,500. They are national, rest on that single source, and are not Arlington prices. Hauling ($300-$600 small, $500-$1,200 medium), fuel and any damage waiver come extra, and a bare rental in Arlington is taxed at 8.25 percent.

Do I need a permit to grade land in Arlington?

Sometimes. Grading or filling inside a regulated flood zone needs a City of Arlington Floodplain Development Permit, and fill in a regulatory floodway is barred unless analysis shows no rise in flood levels. Construction on at least 1 acre and under 5 acres falls under the state's TPDES construction general permit, with a stormwater pollution prevention plan. Separately, a blade cut of 16 inches or more waits on a Texas 811 ticket filed two business days beforehand.

What size bulldozer do I need to clear a lot?

Size it by blade and ground. A small machine such as CASE's 750M carries 1.69 yd3 on a 96 in blade at 20,168 lb; a mid-size DEVELON DD130 XL carries 4.6 yd3 at 31074 lb. In the national marketplace guide, small machines haul on a standard trailer and medium ones need a lowboy. On soft clay, a low-ground-pressure build spreads the load: CASE prints 4.04 psi for the 750M LGP.

Does a dozer need an oversize permit to be hauled?

Often, yes. A load past Texas's legal limits, including a width of 8 feet 6 inches, needs a TxDMV oversize/overweight permit, and DEVELON's DD130 XL blade measures 10 ft 2.2 in while CASE's 1650M wide-track blade measures 156 in across. In Tarrant County, TxDMV keeps oversize loads off highways on weekdays between 7 and 9 a.m. and between 4 and 6 p.m., with an exemption only for mobile cranes, and some frontage roads add width caps, such as 11 feet on parts of I-20.
