Spider and Mini Crane Rental in Arlington, TX
A spider crane is a mini crawler crane built small enough to go through doorways, which then stands on spider-leg outriggers to lift glass, steel and equipment indoors, on rooftops and behind buildings, on sites where, as Maeda puts it, "conventional lifting equipment just can't do the job". What decides it is the way in, the floor or ground under it, the weight at the reach you need, and the power the building allows. UNIC says its URW-295, at 0.6 m wide, "can access through a standard door frame" and rates it 2.9 t at 1.4 m; Maeda lists a 30 in body width and a 6,210 lb maximum for its MC285-2. Below are six small cranes from four makers, when a carry deck crane or a larger crane outside fits better, the OSHA rules, the published small-crane rates and the details a quote starts from.
No published rate for this class; small cranes $200 to $500 per hour (national rental marketplace guide, April 27, 2026) · full pricing guide
Two kinds of small crane share this page. Mini crawler cranes ride on tracks and set up on spider-leg outriggers: UNIC's URW-706 is rated 6.0 t at 3.0 m and lifts to 19.5 m, and Jekko's data sheet rates its SPX650 at 5,000 kg. Compact electric cranes from Hoeflon add a jib; the C6e lifts up to 3000 kg and reaches 16 meters with its jib. The makers say plainly what they build them for. Jekko's SPX650 page pitches the crane "For intricate glazing projects on multi-story buildings and storefronts", Hoeflon calls the C6e "ideal for placing glass and accurately positioning steel beams", and Maeda lists "Indoors / Roof Tops / Multi-Story Building Floors / Behind Buildings / Underground" as the places its cranes go. Around Arlington those uses mean storefront glass, upper floors, rooftops and the tight spaces behind buildings.
No cost guide reviewed for this page publishes a rate for this class: the crane price guide that a national equipment-rental marketplace dated April 27, 2026 treats them as quote-only. Its small-crane figures are the nearest published numbers: "$200 to $500 per hour", or "$300 to $600/day" for the crane alone, with small cranes at "$150 to $350/hour" bare against "$200 to $450/hour" with an operator. HomeGuide's hot tub guide (November 21, 2025) prices a portable wheeled hand-towed crane at $100 to $200. These are national figures, not Arlington prices; the crane cost page lists them with the rest. On a bare rental, the Texas Comptroller's Rule 3.294 taxes the rent, and it adds that "Damage waiver fees are subject to tax", as are a lessor's transportation charges. Arlington's state-plus-city rate is 8.25 percent.
OSHA's crane standard does not stop at big cranes. OSHA's small-equipment rule, section 1926.1441, is the lighter one, and the certification rule excuses operators of derricks, sideboom cranes and equipment with a "maximum manufacturer-rated hoisting/lifting capacity of 2,000 pounds or less". Every crane in our table is rated well above that line (Maeda lists 6,210 lb for the MC285-2), so on construction work section 1926.1427 wants the operator "trained, certified/licensed, and evaluated"; if you rent the crane bare, the person you put at the controls has to meet it, and we will ask for a name. OSHA's scope names carry-deck cranes among the industrial cranes it covers, section 1926.1417 bars traveling with a load where the maker prohibits it, and outdoors the power line rules and Texas's six-foot law reach a mini crane just as they reach a large one.
Outdoors, on storefront glass, courtyards and roofs, wind sets the limit. UNIC publishes 22 mph as the maximum wind speed for its URW-295. April is the windiest month at DFW by the NWS Fort Worth/Dallas table, averaging 12.3 mph, and the NWS's national directive defines a Wind Advisory by "Sustained wind speeds of 30 to 39 mph lasting for 1 hour or longer". NWS Fort Worth's High Wind Warning for Tarrant and nearby counties on March 14, 2025 expected gusts up to 65 mph. Under section 1926.1417, "The competent person must adjust the equipment and/or operations to address the effect of wind", and our construction and weather data page holds the gust records. Indoors the questions change to the door, the floor and the exhaust.
For a written quote, send the load and its weight, the narrowest door or opening on the way in, with its width and height, the floor or ground the crane will sit on and who can vouch for it, the lift height and reach, whether the building needs electric or battery power, and the address and dates. The quote costs nothing and comes in writing before any work. It sets out the crane, whether you want it with an operator or bare, the rental term or minimum call, delivery and any rigging, with a separate price for each and any tax shown.

Spider and Compact Crane Examples by the Numbers
Six small cranes from four makers. Capacity is each maker's maximum, which holds only close in; UNIC prints the radius beside its ratings. The size or weight column holds the figures that decide whether the crane gets through a door or onto a floor. Metric makers' figures are shown as they print them.
| Maker and model | Maximum capacity | Maximum lift height | Size or weight | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maeda MC285-2 | 6,210 lb | 31 ft 10 in | 30 in body width | Diesel, gas, diesel/electric or gas/LPG |
| UNIC URW-295 | 2.9 t at 1.4 m | 8.8 m (9.8 m with fly jib) | 0.6 m wide | Petrol; LPG, electric or diesel options |
| UNIC URW-706 | 6.0 t at 3.0 m | 19.5 m (22.7 m, second-stage fly jib) | 1600mm wide (maker's description) | Diesel; optional mains electric |
| Jekko SPX650 | 5000 kg | 17,3 m (23,7 m with jib) | 5800 kg, standard setup | Diesel/electric or lithium battery |
| Hoeflon C6e | 3000 kg | 16 m with jib | 2,98m x 0,77m x 1,88m; 2850 kg with options | Electric, 230 V charging |
| Hoeflon C10e | 4000 kg | 22 m with jib | 3,97m x 0,81m x 2,00m; 5075 kg with options | Electric, 230 V charging |
Each maker's published figures for the model named. Jekko and Hoeflon print metric numbers with decimal commas, kept here as printed. Capacity falls as reach grows, so a lift is planned from the load chart for its setup. These are sample models showing the class, not cranes we own.
When the Job Calls for a Spider or Mini Crane
Small cranes earn their place where a bigger crane cannot get close: through a door, onto a finished floor, into a courtyard or up on a roof. These are the conditions that point to one, and each is something you can measure or see before you call.
- The only way to the lift is through a doorway, loading dock or corridor, so the crane has to roll in on its own tracks.
- Glass panels, curtain-wall units or storefront glazing have to be set from inside the building or right against the wall.
- The crane must stand on a slab, deck or upper floor, so its weight and the lift's loads have to suit that floor.
- The building is occupied or closed in, so exhaust matters and an electric or battery crane is the better fit.
- Steel beams, machines or equipment need setting inside a plant or a finished building where no truck can reach.
- A finished floor must not be marked, which calls for the low-marking tracks some makers offer.
Doorways, Floors and Air: Getting a Mini Crane Inside
The way in decides the crane before capacity does. UNIC's URW-295 page says "With a width of just 0.6m, the URW-295 can access through a standard door frame", and UNIC describes its bigger URW-706 as 1600mm wide and "still narrow enough to gain access through a standard double doorway". Maeda gives its MC285-2 a 30 in body width, and Hoeflon prints the C6e at 2,98m x 0,77m x 1,88m and the C10e at 3,97m x 0,81m x 2,00m. Then comes the floor, because these cranes are heavy for their size: Hoeflon gives 2850 kg for the C6e and 5075 kg for the C10e with options, and Jekko gives 5800 kg for the SPX650 in standard form.
The makers also print ground or track pressure: 0.79 kg/cm2 for the C6e, 0,69 kg/cm2 for the C10e and a track load of 0,80 kg/cm2 for the diesel/electric SPX650. Whoever answers for the slab, deck or upper floor should check those figures, and the loads of the planned lift, before move-in day. Finished floors raise one more point, and UNIC offers "Optional low marking tracks". The air matters in an occupied building, and the makers answer with electric drives: UNIC's URW-295 has a "Battery crane option also available for sensitive environments", the URW-706 offers "optional mains electric" with "Zero length increase", Jekko's battery SPX650CL "is ideal for indoor and urban jobsites", and both Hoeflons charge from 230 V.
Glass at Full Reach: Reading a Small Crane's Capacity Figures
A small crane's headline rating holds only close in, and the makers print how far it falls. Manitowoc defines a crane's maximum capacity as the figure "obtained at minimum radius with basic minimum boom length", and the compact cranes' own figures show the same pattern. Hoeflon's C6e page lists 3000 kg as the maximum but 210 kg at maximum outreach, which is 13,7 m with the jib; the C10e drops from 4000 kg to 209 kg at its 18,5 m outreach. UNIC prints the radius beside each rating, 2.9 t at 1.4 m for the URW-295 and 6.0 t at 3.0 m for the URW-706. Reeving matters too: Maeda lists the MC285-2's hook at 3,100 lb on a two-part line and 1,560 lb on a single part, so the hook setup can cap a pick before the chart does.
Everything under the hook counts. Manitowoc says hook blocks and rigging "must be subtracted from the rated load", so a glass lifter is counted the same way. OSHA accepts a load weight "determined from a source recognized by the industry", which for a glass unit means its maker's figure, and section 1926.1417 bars working past rated capacity. Jekko adds a figure for carrying: the SPX650 lists "Up to 800 kg lifting capacity" in pick-and-carry mode. Hoeflon's page shows the C6e with a glass suction lifter; the panel, the lifter and the slings together must sit inside the chart at the reach where the glass lands.
Hotels, a Museum and Campus Buildings: Where Small Cranes Fit Nearby
The big buildings around Arlington show where small cranes fit: inside finished space, beside glass and under roofs, as their owners describe them. The City of Arlington says the National Medal of Honor Museum opened on March 25, 2025 with 31,000 square feet of exhibition galleries, and Texas Highways described its hall on April 3, 2026 as a "200-by-200-foot steel structure" that "hovers 40 feet above the ground". Loews opened its 21-story Arlington hotel on February 13, 2024 with 888 rooms, and the City said on January 22, 2026 that the planned Americana by Loews will have 507 guest rooms. The City reported on August 29, 2025 that Medical City Arlington's $144 million expansion added more than 127,000 square feet, and Tarrant County College said on October 7, 2026 that its $193 million Southeast campus work added 100,000 square feet of new space and 234,000 square feet of renovations.
In Fort Worth, American School & University reported in August 2026 that Texas A&M opened an eight-story, 228,000-square-foot Law & Education Building, with an 11-story research building due in 2029 (see crane rental in Fort Worth). In Mansfield, The MIC, a five-story building of about 150,000 square feet, is due in fall 2027, per a City release of August 25, 2026, with Texas Tech's nursing school taking about 33,000 square feet of it (see Mansfield crane service). Interior glass, atrium steel and rooftop equipment in buildings like these are lifts a crane that fits through the door can make; whether one fits a given job depends on the door, the floor and the weight at reach.
Spider Crane, Carry Deck Crane or a Larger Crane Outside
Three answers fit three access problems. The question is whether the crane must go inside, drive with the load, or reach over the building from the street. The figures under each option are one maker's, picked to show what you give up and what you gain.
Spider or mini crawler crane
Goes where access is narrowest; UNIC's URW-295 is 0.6 m wide. Maeda lists indoors, roof tops, building floors and the space behind buildings among its sites, and battery or electric options suit closed buildings. The trade is reach: Hoeflon rates the C6e at 3000 kg maximum but 210 kg at full outreach, so heavy pieces have to be set close in.
Carry deck crane
Rides on wheels and has a deck rated to carry loads, which suits industrial floors and yards. Broderson rates its IC-100-B at 20,000 lbs on the hook and lists 22 MPH in fourth gear; its deck takes 14,000 lb if the load sits centered over or between the axles. The smaller IC-20 is rated 5,000 lbs and is 4 ft wide. OSHA's scope lists carry-deck cranes as industrial cranes.
Larger crane from outside
When the load is heavy and the path in is blocked, a truck or all-terrain crane parked in the street or lot can reach over the building instead. That brings street permits, outrigger loads on pavement and power-line checks, but no floor limits. See mobile crane rental for the hydraulic classes and their published rates.
Moving a machine between buildings or into a plant is a job of its own, with trailers, permits and rigging as well as a small crane at the far end. For those moves, see heavy haul and machinery moving, which sets out how they are planned and what the published hauling figures say.
Spider and Mini Crane Rental FAQs
What does a spider crane cost to rent?
No published figure exists for this class in the guides reviewed here: a national equipment-rental marketplace, in its guide dated April 27, 2026, calls these cranes quote-based. Its nearest figure is the small crane range, $200 to $500 per hour, a national number rather than an Arlington price. Your written quote from us lists the crane, delivery, the minimum hours or rental period and any rigging, priced one by one with the tax shown.
Will a spider crane fit through a door?
Some will. UNIC says its URW-295, 0.6 m wide, can access through a standard door frame, and that its larger URW-706, at 1600mm, is narrow enough for a standard double doorway. Maeda lists a 30 in body width for its MC285-2. Measure the narrowest point on the route, including turns and ramps, and check the floor beyond it: Hoeflon's C6e weighs 2,850 kg with options, so the slab matters as much as the door.
Does a mini crane operator have to be certified?
On construction work, yes, for every crane on this page. OSHA section 1926.1427 excuses operators of derricks, sideboom cranes and equipment with a "maximum manufacturer-rated hoisting/lifting capacity of 2,000 pounds or less", and the cranes here are rated well above that. Each operator has to be "trained, certified/licensed, and evaluated", and a certification from an accredited testing body is valid for 5 years. NCCCO is one such body. When you rent bare, whoever you bring to run the crane must meet it; tell us who that will be.
How much can a spider crane lift?
It depends on how far out the load is. UNIC rates its URW-295 at 2.9 t at 1.4 m and its URW-706 at 6.0 t at 3.0 m, but capacity falls with reach: Hoeflon rates its C6e at 3000 kg maximum and 210 kg at full outreach. Tell us the weight, how far the load must travel out from the crane's set-up spot, and how high it goes, and we will match the crane to the chart.
