Skid Steer and Track Loader Rental in Arlington, TX

A skid steer has no steering axle; it turns by driving its left and right wheels, or rubber tracks, at different speeds. In Arlington the choice between wheels and tracks usually comes down to ground and rain. Size follows rated operating capacity, the load the maker rates the machine to carry: Bobcat lists 2900 lbs for its S76-2 and DEVELON 3806 lb. for its DTL35 compact track loader. Tracks spread the weight: DEVELON prints 6.5 psi of ground pressure for its DTL26. Clay that the USDA calls "very slowly permeable" takes water in slowly, so a graded pad can stay soft after a storm, and that is when tracks earn their higher rate. Here are the makers' figures, the published national rates and terms, OSHA's rollover and seat belt rules, and what a wet Arlington site does to a loader job.

Published price

$200-$550 a day, $750-$1,300 a week for a skid-steer loader (HomeGuide, January 16, 2026, national) · full pricing guide

Two machine types share this page. A wheeled skid-steer loader such as Bobcat's S76-2 (8014 lbs, 74 hp, rated for 2900 lbs) is quickest on pavement and firm base, with a high range Bobcat lists at 11.8 mph; the larger S86-2 is rated for 3500 lbs and lifts to a 144 in hinge pin. A compact track loader (CTL) puts the same layout on rubber tracks. DEVELON's DTL26 and DTL35 use a vertical lift path, meaning the arms raise the bucket close to straight up rather than in an arc, and Bobcat's all-electric T7X offers "Up to six hours of continuous runtime" from a 72.6 kwh battery. Attachments run on auxiliary hydraulics: Bobcat lists 23.3 gpm standard and 30.3 gpm high flow on the S76-2.

Published loader rates are national and come from guides of different ages, so read each with its date. HomeGuide's yard-leveling guide (January 16, 2026) lists "Skid-steer loader rental | $200 - $550 | $750 - $1,300" per day and per week, and Angi's excavator-rental price page (updated July 2026) lists "Skid steer: $200 to $600 per day". Two older marketplace guides price the types apart. The one modified on November 8, 2023 prints wheeled daily rates of "$200-$450" and tracked daily rates of "$300-$500"; the other, from July 31, 2023, puts compact track loaders at "$3,000 to $5,000" a month. The November 2023 guide adds that "pallet forks, snow blowers and augers generally cost extra." Tax follows the Comptroller's Rule 3.294, which makes "Receipts from the lease of tangible personal property without an operator" taxable along with the damage waiver and delivery; Arlington's combined rate is 8.25 percent. Compare classes on our equipment and crane cost page.

Federal and state rules both reach a compact loader. OSHA's rollover rule, 29 CFR 1926.1000, names "crawler-type loaders" among the machines it covers and reaches "rubber-tired skid-steer equipment" manufactured after July 15, 2019; 29 CFR 1926.1000(c) has the material handling machinery described there, if built on or after that date, carry rollover protective structures that satisfy section 1926.1001(c). Seat belts on earthmoving equipment are mandatory under 29 CFR 1926.602, which also wants a reverse alarm or a signaler before a machine with a blocked rear view backs up. Texas adds Utilities Code chapter 251: an auger, bucket or grading pass that removes or disturbs soil 16 or more inches down counts as excavation, so Texas 811 needs the request two business days before work, and weekends and holidays do not count toward that.

Rain on clay is the condition to plan around. Tarrant County gets "a little more than thirty-two inches" of rain a year (Handbook of Texas), and DEVELON prints track ground pressures of 5.1 to 6.5 psi for its two loaders; low pressure is the reason to pay for tracks on soft ground. Summer heat is the other limit: DFW reached 100 degrees F on 27 of August 2026's days, the second-highest August count on the NWS Fort Worth/Dallas list, behind 2011 and tied with 2000 and 1952. Nearby cities publish site work at a loader's scale: Cedar Hill's Historic Downtown has "ongoing streetscape improvements" (Cedar Hill's districts and projects), and Mansfield's Fields at Station 63 adds "eight turf baseball/softball fields" to the Staybolt Street district (Mansfield's Staybolt Street work).

Tell us what the loader will do (grade, load trucks, carry pallets, bore post holes), the attachments and their hydraulic flow, the surface underneath, how the machine gets in, and the dates. The quote is free; it itemizes the loader, each attachment, the rental period, delivery, any damage waiver and sales tax. If an auger or bucket will reach 16 inches, the 811 locate request is placed first, two business days out, by our office or yours, and every loader goes out with its manufacturer's operating information.

Skid Steers and Track Loaders on the Makers' Sheets

Two wheeled and three tracked models show the spread. Rated operating capacity is the maker's load rating; DEVELON states its own as 35% of tipping load. Ground pressure appears only where the maker prints it.

Model and type Rated operating capacity Operating weight Ground pressure Power
Bobcat S76-2 (wheeled) 2,900 lb 8,014 lb Not listed 74 hp
Bobcat S86-2 (wheeled) 3,500 lb 10,098 lb Not listed 115 hp
Bobcat T7X (tracked, electric) 3,056 lb (ISO) 12,590 lb Not listed 72.6 kWh battery
DEVELON DTL26 (tracked) 2,594 lb 9,914 lb 6.5 psi 71.7 hp net
DEVELON DTL35 (tracked) 3,806 lb 12,785 lb 5.7 psi (15-in. track) 102.6 hp net

Each figure is the maker's own, as printed on its page or sheet. The five machines show what each class can do; none is listed as ours. Bucket, forks and track width change the numbers, and the delivered machine's rating and manual govern.

When a Compact Loader Fits the Work

A compact loader earns its place where material moves short distances, again and again, on a site too tight or too soft for a full-size wheel loader. These conditions point to one, and they also show whether wheels or rubber tracks suit the ground you have.

  • Base, topsoil or spoil has to travel short distances across a lot, a yard or a pad, trip after trip through the day.
  • The ground is clay that stays soft after rain, where DEVELON's printed track ground pressures of 5.1 to 6.5 psi help a machine keep moving.
  • One carrier must run forks, an auger and a bucket, and each attachment's flow must match the loader's, such as Bobcat's 30.3 gpm high flow on the S76-2.
  • Fence, sign or footing holes will go 16 inches deep or more, which brings the Texas 811 call before the auger turns.
  • Exhaust matters because the work is in or beside occupied buildings, where Bobcat's all-electric T7X is sold on "Zero emissions."
  • The machine will be stored in a regulated flood zone, which the City of Arlington counts as development needing a Floodplain Development Permit.

Bigger jobs belong to bigger machines: a long or deep trench suits an excavator sized to the cut, and clearing or shaping a whole site suits a crawler dozer with a full blade. Tell us the job and we will say where the line falls.

OSHA's Rollover and Seat Belt Rules for Compact Loaders

OSHA's construction rules on rollover protection sit in the subpart titled "Rollover Protective Structures; Overhead Protection," starting at 29 CFR 1926.1000. Its scope paragraph lists "crawler-type loaders" among covered machines and adds: "This subpart also applies to compactors and rubber-tired skid-steer equipment, with or without attachments," "manufactured after July 15, 2019, that are used in construction work." OSHA's page for the section lists among its citations "84 FR 21577, May 14, 2019". A rollover protective structure (ROPS) is the frame around the operator's seat built to protect the operator if the machine overturns, and 29 CFR 1926.1000(c) requires the material handling machinery described in the scope, if made on or after July 15, 2019, to carry one that satisfies section 1926.1001(c).

Under 29 CFR 1926.1000(e), every ROPS carries a permanent label giving the "Manufacturer or fabricator's name and address;", the "ROPS model number, if any;" and the "Machine make, model, or series number that the structure is designed to fit." That label is the quick check before a rented loader goes to work: it should name the machine it sits on. The belt rule is paragraph (a)(2)(i) of 29 CFR 1926.602: "Seat belts shall be provided on all equipment covered by this section", built to SAE J386-1969. The same section bars backing earthmoving equipment that has "an obstructed view to the rear" unless "a reverse signal alarm" is working or "an employee signals that it is safe to do so."

Wheels or Tracks on Tarrant County Clay After a Storm

Ground conditions decide which loader fits an Arlington site. The Handbook of Texas maps the Blackland Prairie, a "rolling grassland with rich clayey and loamy soil," into southeast Tarrant County and gives the Grand Prairie belt "shallow, clayey soil". USDA descriptions of clay series from those regions call Houston Black "very slowly permeable" with "High shrink-swell potential", and note that Sanger soil opens cracks 1 to 3 inches wide when dry. The USDA texts do not mention Tarrant County by name, so trust your lot's own soil report over them. Tracks answer soft clay with lower ground pressure: DEVELON prints 6.5 psi for the DTL26 on its 12.6-in. track and 5.7 or 5.1 psi for the DTL35 on its 15-in.

and 17-in. tracks. Storm season adds a second risk. The National Weather Service issues a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for "wind gusts equal to or in excess of 50 knots (58 miles per hour (mph))" or "hail size of one inch (U.S. quarter-size) in diameter or larger", and our construction and weather data for Arlington collects the area's wind, heat and storm figures. On City of Arlington right-of-way work, section 3.9(10) of the Right-of-Way Manual calls for "Plywood or equivalent products" to keep machines from rutting pavement and ground, and the City counts "the storage of equipment and materials such as machinery" in a regulated flood zone as development needing a permit.

Capacity, Hydraulic Flow and Run Time on a Loader's Spec Sheet

Three numbers on a loader's spec sheet decide whether it can do your job. First is rated operating capacity, the load the maker rates the machine to carry. DEVELON states its figure as 35% of tipping load, tipping load being the weight at which the loader would start to tip forward, and prints 2594 lb. against a 7411 lb. tipping load for the DTL26. Bobcat prints 2900 lbs against 5800 lbs for the S76-2; for the T7X the pair is 3056 lbs (ISO) against 8743 lbs.

A pallet of block or a full bucket of wet clay has to fit under the rated figure, not the tipping figure. Second is auxiliary hydraulic flow, which drives attachments such as augers. Bobcat lists 23.3 gpm standard and 30.3 gpm high flow on the S76-2 and 36.6 gpm high flow on the S86-2, and DEVELON's DTL35 spec sheet lists 39.9 gpm high flow. Check the attachment maker's flow requirement against these and give it to us with the order. Third, for a battery machine, is run time. Bobcat rates the T7X for "Up to six hours of continuous runtime" from its 72.6 kwh battery, so a longer shift needs charging planned into the day.

Wheels, Tracks or Battery: Picking the Loader

The trade is ground against speed and price. Wheels rent for less and travel faster on hard surfaces; rubber tracks spread weight on clay and turf; a battery machine removes exhaust in exchange for a run time. The makers' figures and the published rates for each:

Wheeled skid-steer loader

Bobcat's S76-2 reaches 11.8 mph in high range and is rated for 2900 lbs; the S86-2 is rated for 3500 lbs at 115 hp. For wheeled machines, the marketplace guide modified in November 2023 prints daily "$200-$450", weekly "$600-$1,000" and monthly "$1,200-$3,500". Suits paved lots, firm base, dry-weather landscaping and loading on concrete.

Compact track loader

DEVELON's DTL35 spreads 12785 lb. over tracks at 5.7 psi on the 15-inch track, and its high-flow circuit lists 39.9 gpm. For tracked machines the same guide prints daily "$300-$500", weekly "$700-$1,500" and monthly "$2,000-$4,000". Suits clay after rain, finish grading, turf and work on slopes.

All-electric track loader

Bobcat's T7X is rated for 3056 lbs (ISO), runs from a 72.6 kwh battery at 465 v, and lists 65.4 db at the operator's position against 92.7 db for a bystander under ISO 6395. Bobcat calls it "hydraulic-free." Suits work beside homes, offices and other occupied buildings where exhaust matters, provided charging fits the schedule.

Questions

Skid Steer and Track Loader Rental FAQs

What does a skid steer rental cost in Arlington?

The published figures are national and span several years. HomeGuide's January 16, 2026 guide gives $200-$550 a day and $750-$1,300 a week; Angi's July 2026 update gives "$200 to $600 per day". Both marketplace guides that split the types price tracked loaders above wheeled ones. Delivery, attachments, any damage waiver and sales tax are added; a bare rental inside Arlington is taxed at 8.25 percent combined. Our written quote shows each line.

Tracks or tires: which loader works better on wet clay?

Tracks, in most cases, because they spread the machine's weight. DEVELON prints ground pressures of 5.1 to 6.5 psi for its two compact track loaders, and soft, slow-draining clay is where that pays. On dry ground, base or pavement, a wheeled machine is quicker, with Bobcat listing 11.8 mph high range on the S76-2 against 8.7 mph on its tracked T7X, and the published guides price wheels lower.

Do skid steers need rollover protection?

Under OSHA's construction rules, yes for machines built after July 15, 2019: 29 CFR 1926.1000(a) brings "rubber-tired skid-steer equipment" manufactured after that date into the rollover-protection subpart, whose list also names "crawler-type loaders." The structure must meet section 1926.1001(c) and carry a permanent label naming the machine it fits, and seat belts are required on earthmoving equipment by 29 CFR 1926.602. Check the label and the belt before work starts.

Do attachments cost extra on a skid steer rental?

Usually. One national marketplace guide says "Extra attachments like pallet forks, snow blowers and augers generally cost extra and may need to be rented separately." Match the attachment's hydraulic needs to the loader: Bobcat lists 23.3 gpm standard and 30.3 gpm high flow on its S76-2, and DEVELON 30.9 gpm high flow on its DTL26. An auger that will bore 16 inches or deeper also needs a Texas 811 locate request two business days before work.
